Guys Of A Certain Age

It’s award show season, and this time The Guys are ahead of the game!  

Oscar nominations are out, and the RAJ Collective (that’s Robbie Art Jay for those playing at home) are almost as excited as when they found out the Golden Globes had already happened.  As a matter of fact, most of the same movies showed up on the lists - except now there are more lists.  Catch all the comments as they share opinions on a bunch of films and actors that the three of them mostly haven’t seen.  

And while you listen to Geeks of the Week, enjoy a Mason jar full of magic Disney water for the low, low price of $5300 as you explore the Whoniverse and mourn the loss of a seventies teen star.  This episode would be Oscar material if it were only a movie.  

The Guys of the Certain Age Studio is a little short of Shirleys on this episode, leaving Jay and Robbie to talk about their second favorite activity: eating.

And it’s a great time to talk about it (and to eat) because the Super Bowl is coming up soon, and that means super snacks. But does it mean snacking with a crowd?  At their home or someone else’s?  Or is it just as fun to nosh on a chip and dip buffet or grill those wings strictly for the fam?

The Golden Globes are so “last year,” except it’s been a year, and now they’re back.  

Art actually watched a little bit of the show, and that plus a quick online review of the winners and nominees was fodder enough for The Guys to talk about what they didn’t watch.  Unfortunately, Art and Robbie seemed to think Jay had some words of wisdom about the 2022 awardees, but it turned out he’d only seen one of the movies and one of the TV shows.  But did that stop them?  Nay, nay.  

In Geeks of the Week, Robbie talks of stranger things, Art heard there are aliens afoot, and Jay lands in night court.  You’ll want to listen to this one: what could possibly go wrong?

This week, Robbie and Art talk about shows and movies they'd like to see brought back as reboots, remakes, or continuations. If all this sounds familiar, it's not because they've talked about it before and forgotten, it's because they've talked about it before, forgotten, and decided to spin it as a reboot! Or recycling.

It’s not Groundhog Day just yet, but The Guys are back to repeating themselves.  For the second week in a row, there is a guest in the studio talking about fave movies and tv of 2022, with an expectant look towards 2023.  

One might say The Guys are getting rusty, having to bring in consecutive guests to liven up the conversation, but in this case it’s literal: they got Rusty, aka Jay’s brother and loyal listener, to join the opining.  

The Geek of the Week segment brings surprising news of Wednesday (the show, not the day of the week), potential Marvel-Ween projects in the future, and even more potential shelving of perfectly good shows on HBO Max, or whatever they’re calling themselves today.

Special guest Bill Triplett joins Robbie and Art for a look back at the year that was 2022. What were our favorite series and movies from the past year, and what are we most looking forward to seeing in 2023? Some answers may surprise.

It’s that time of year, the time when decisions are made: will I make New Year’s Resolutions?  Should I even bother?  Do they turn into life-changing habits or are they broken the first time we drive by the Golden Arches on the way to the soon-to-be uncrowded gym?

It was a Trivia Takeover - no, The Guys didn’t take over as guest posters on a social media site…they can barely maintain their own.  Nope, they were actually invited to host trivia night at a local tavern recently, the same tavern where they recorded their 200th episode live and in person, still the only episode that can be watched (see aforementioned barely-maintained Facebook page.)  

And that got them to thinking, why have trivia nights become so popular?  Jay found reasons.  And what other trivia games and similar activities brought us to this time in our culture?  The Guys have a meaningful discussion of all things trivial.  Meanwhile, back in Geeks of the Week, it seems Henry Sounds-Like-Travel is a geek, too, despite his apparent departure as the Man of Steel.

 Plus Jay is very excited to announce one of his favorite collectibles has re-entered the market after a long hiatus; unfortunately he can no longer afford it.  But you can afford to listen to this episode, because it’s free.
