Breakfast: The Most Important Podcast of the Day
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
Tuesday Jun 18, 2019
In this episode, the Guys toast the "most important meal of the day."
In addition to serving up their thoughts on current favorite breakfast foods and where to find them, Jay, Art, and Robbie look back at childhood breakfast staples including the wide variety of sugary cereals aimed at (and loved by) kids.
And because it's "not just for breakfast anymore", the guys weigh in on the idea of breakfast for dinner.
Geek of the Week offerings include; a look at the novel success of a Mississippi native and Ole Miss alum, DC's Swamp Thing being bogged down by financial problems, and Apple's latest pro machine that doesn't offer much bang for the (mega)buck.
No waffling-dig in to this episode and be sure to subscribe.

Do You Come From a A Land Down Under?
Tuesday Jun 11, 2019
Tuesday Jun 11, 2019
Is this special edition of "Guys," Robbie visits with good friend, TV producer and fellow geek Steve Griffiths. Other than being one of Robbie's only friends, Steve is from Down Under and brings an unique perspective to geek culture and how growing up in Australia was different from our the Guy's childhood.
There are a lot of Doctor Who, Star Wars and cartoon references. And a pretty cool accent. And Steve's isn't bad either....

Finales: What makes a good TV series finale? (Part 2)
Monday Jun 03, 2019
Monday Jun 03, 2019
The Guys take a break from Geek of the Week to dive right into this finale of finales. Again…NOT the finale of the podcast (we hope), but the finale of this two-part dramatic mini-series on what makes a good TV series finale.
Actually, the primary drama is whether or not Art will be able to dial in to the studio from his commute through rural Mississippi, and that moment when Jay almost spoils Lost for Robbie. Art and Jay agree, however, that Lost spoiled itself. Or soiled itself. Listeners be the judge.
The Guys each share the series finales that have made the most impact on them - good, bad or otherwise - and discover that really, they are all watching too much TV.

Finales: What makes a good TV series finale? (Part 1)
Friday May 24, 2019
Friday May 24, 2019
Jay's missing (see below) and Robbie and Art talk about other podcasts and series finales. Could Episode 20 be the last we hear of Guys of a Certain Age!!
Well...no. With Jay out on assignment, this episode's Geek of the Week features two podcasts to listen to when you're not listening to Guys. Art suggests listening to Blockbuster, Matt Schrader's dramatized "biopod" of the early days of Spielberg and Lucas as they create Jaws and Star Wars. Robbie's podcast pick is Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History, a fascinating podcast that reinterprets events, people, or ideas from the past.
With the recent series ends of GOT and Big Bang Theory, Robbie and Art take a look at what makes a series finale good and cite a few examples of shows that got it right and shows that seemed a bit... Lost.
So grab a coffee cup or water bottle, and join us! And don't forget to subscribe, because we're not done yet.
SHOW NOTES
Blockbuster: A Six-Part Original Series. Set in the 1970s, this immersive "biopod" tells the story of two big-dreaming filmmakers and friends, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, and how they turned their lives upside down to lead a movie revolution.
Malcom Gladwell's Revisionist History. Each week for 10 weeks, Revisionist History will go back and reinterpret something from the past: an event, a person, an idea. Something overlooked. Something misunderstood.
Jay's undisclosed location this week.

Episode 18: The Endgame (Episode)
Monday May 13, 2019
Monday May 13, 2019
In an episode 10 years in the making, the Guys discuss the cinematic achievement that is Avengers: Endgame.
Things start with the Geek of the Week segment: The Guys pay tribute to the late Peter Mayhew, the beloved actor who originated Star Wars' favorite Wookie, Chewbacca. Jay shares an app he discovered that helped him navigate the uncertain waters of a three-hour movie. And in a nod to the upcoming time-travel discussion, Robbie talks about an ad Apple made in 1987, set in 1997, looking back at the innovations that made those 10 years the Apple decade.
For the next 4 hours, the guys engage in a spoiler-filled recap of the 3-hour Avengers: Endgame movie, touching on favorite moments, emotional highlights, and generally "marvel"ing at how brilliantly the Russo brothers wrapped up the 22 movie story! (It's not really 4 hours, but we think you'll agree the extra time was warranted.)
SHOW NOTES
Jay's revolutionary ap for guys of a certain age.
Art pays homage to the late, great Peter Mayhew.
Robbie reveals the almost prophetic 1987 Apple Time Capsule video.

Episode 17: Guys of a Certain Palate
Monday May 06, 2019
Monday May 06, 2019
In this week’s episode, Art joins the Guys from home by way of a can and 25 miles of string, since high-tech methods somehow shut down the studio computer.
At the request of our favorite local baker and dedicated listener, this half-ish hour of ear-tickling fun is all about road trip food. Listen as these deep questions are answered (or not):
- Will Robbie find his favorite vintage danish?
- Will Art eat his fast food in the restaurant or wear it in the car?
- Will Jay eat his first real Swedish meal at an Ikea cafe?
Plus, a short discussion on favorite Easter candy. Art digs the black jelly beans - yes, he’s that guy. Hear Robbie’s quote of the month ever: “You’re the food writer - I just own a chef.” And Geeks of the Week run the gamut of Gotham, Grant and a Gizmodo article that brings out the kid artist in all of us.

Episode 16: Who's On Second? (Doctor Who part 2)
Monday Apr 29, 2019
Monday Apr 29, 2019
Yep, it’s the second episode of a two-parter. Or rather, a Who-parter.
But first! Geeks of the Week now have their own theme music! The Guys are very excited. Jay brings news of a Brie Larson/Samuel L. Jackson collaboration that is mystical and magical but doesn’t involve Stan Lee. Art watched the Star Wars Celebration live (he was on a coffee break we’re pretty sure), and was also mistaken for “Old Luke” - that’s Skywalker, not Duke. Robbie educates us on the new Disney Plus streaming service: marvels, and pixars, and ewoks, oh my.
For the remainder of the episode, Robbie waxes eloquently about Doctor Who, the Doctor’s companions, the rules of time travel, and the reason the TARDIS is an old British police box. And we learn the golden rule of this epic show: No hanky-panky in the TARDIS.
SHOW NOTES
Jay reveals "The Unicorn Store" to us via the Netflix suggestion algorithm. And here is the info about "Wonderfalls" that neither Jay or Art knew...
Art brings us "The Rise of Skywalker" trailer. And the Emperor.
And Disney's domination continues with Disney+. Take Robbie's Money Now!

Episode 15: (Doctor) Who Knows?
Tuesday Apr 23, 2019
Tuesday Apr 23, 2019
Who should we talk about this week, Doctor? Yes. Exactly. Robbie finally gets his wish, and the guys discuss (translated: listen to Robbie discuss) the record-breaking phenomenon that is Dr. Who.
But first! Geeks of the Week! Jay tried unsuccessfully to Skype in from a car flying through mid-town Atlanta, but his Marvel movie marathon would have been very exciting.
Art watched a Sinbad (not the comedian) movie starring Tom Baker (Dr. Who the 4th), and Robbie introduced us to some very cool yacht rock dulcimer music played by his almost cousin? Then Robbie amazes all with his unscripted knowledge of all things Dr. Who, the long-running BBC sci-fi masterpiece theater.
SHOW NOTES
"The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" Trailer with Tom Baker.
Ted Yoder- and Curt Smith, lead singer of Tears for Fears- do an amazing version of "Everybody Wants To Rule The World."

Jay shares the Forbes list of fictional millionaires which features Bruce Wayne (Spoiler alert: that's Batman's secret identity). Robbie shares the incredible story of a group of students that performed Alien as their high school play. Yes. THAT Alien.
Next, the Dynamic...er, Trio? engage in a lightning round of our Bat favorites: actors, villains, movies, TV series, and more. Some answers will surprise you. They surprised us!
