Guys Of A Certain Age

This week, the Guys scare up a special Halloween episode, starting with a Geek of the Week segment in which Jay introduces a destructive Instagram account, and Robbie tells about a secret message hidden on a vinyl record. It's not what you think.

What does Fortnite, fast food and Chortle Game's Jake Jones have in common?  Not much except for being on Guys of A Certain Age.

Fortnite pulls a marketing coup with a server upgrade and Jake joins Jay and Robbie to explain. Then he joins in to talk favorite fast foods and the shades of fast food dining. Spoiler alert: everyone loves Chick-Fil-A.  What comes in second? Third? What is really fast food? What would Art think? (Cause he ain't on the show.)

Everyone has one.  Letterman called it a "Brush with Greatness".  Kevin Bacon has "6 Degrees from ... me." Whether you've spotted Tom Baker from afar, or ended up in the same elevator with Emeril Lagasse, we all have celebrity-spotting stories. 

Two lucky Guys actually get to host a podcast with Robbie!  But aside from other podcast hosts, all the Guys have had plenty of celebrity interactions, whether they can be proven by photographic evidence or not. 

The Guys also brought back the Geek of the Week triple threat: Art participates in Inktober (and explains it to the rest of us), Jay's getting geared up to play vintage arcade games (and learns a valuable lesson about terminology), and Robbie...well, he's just watching more TV.  Sit down with your favorite celebrity and listen!

This episode starts with a Geek of the Week that should have please our listeners- Spiderman is coming back to the fan-friendly neighborhood of the MCU. Disney and Sony have worked through a complex web of financial and legal issues to continue their successful collaboration. 

Let's be clear: none of the Guys ever played high school football. Shocker, right? But even though Robbie is the only one who still has kids under the Friday night lights, Jay and Art still attend games at their respective alma maters.

And they still have opinions.

Each of the Guys attended perennial power schools where the football teams ranked second only to the mighty marching bands most of the crowds came to see. Oh, and let's not forget the guy holding the banner.

Two-Thirds of the Guys are on hand for this episode, with Jay currently on assignment.

It’s football season, and in the South, the mindset changes. Even for guys of a certain age, who may be losing theirs.

But while those brain cell are still clicking, the Guys look at the history of experiencing college football through the lens of evolving technology. From leather helmets to the ESPN app, they’ve seen it all and can watch it over over again if they want. Okay, maybe they don’t go quite that far back, but they do remember actually having to watch games in real time - even before the advent of the VCR.

All efforts to convince Jefferson Pilot to sponsor this episode came to naught.

They are Guys of a Certain Age, but did they ever really grow up?  And what will they do when they get there? 

That is the question upon which the Guys pontificate this week.  Jay reaches way back to his childhood dreams of being an archeologist.  (Spoiler: that didn't happen. Not enough air conditioning.) Art had visions of writing his own comic strip, and actually came pretty close.  Robbie said: Grow up?  Where's the fun in that?  Listen as they dream in reverse.
